1. Verify products and documentation
Inventory the shipment and match model numbers, hardware, and components to the supplied documentation. Resolve missing, damaged, or unclear items before beginning. Do not substitute hardware, change a mounting method, or rely on an older manual without written confirmation.
Keep the invoice, freight paperwork, specifications, instructions, and photographs together as the permanent project record.
2. Review the site
Confirm property boundaries, setbacks, slopes, drainage, surfacing, utilities, irrigation, access, and the proposed circulation pattern. Locate underground utilities through the appropriate local process before excavation.
Check whether the project requires permits, engineering, accessible routes, inspections, or licensed trades. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and scope; GOA does not make a blanket claim that every package can be installed without review.
3. Lay out equipment and use areas
Use the manufacturer dimensions and required clearances. Consider how dogs and handlers enter, move between activities, rest, access water, and reach waste facilities. Avoid crowding equipment simply to fit more pieces into the enclosure.
Also evaluate conflicts with gates, fencing, trees, drainage paths, lighting, utilities, and maintenance access. Mark the layout and verify all measurements before excavation or concrete work.
4. Build foundations as specified
Foundation requirements depend on the product, soil, climate, and mounting method. Follow the current instructions for dimensions, reinforcement, embedment, anchoring, concrete, and curing. A qualified professional should resolve any conflict between product instructions and site conditions.
Do not place equipment into use before foundations and anchors are ready for service.
5. Assemble and install correctly
Use trained personnel, proper lifting methods, and the specified tools and hardware. Protect finishes during handling. Tighten connections as directed and verify that components are aligned, stable, and free of unintended sharp edges, pinch points, or protruding hardware.
